UYSA Board Meeting Update - Policy 6316 Tryouts - Players Seeking Outside Training
Sandy, UT - 05.26.2020
At the UYSA board meeting last Thursday, there was an update to policy 6316 Tryouts (4) Process (g)(1) and (2) due to Covid-19 affecting the Spring 2020 season. This change is being sent today to all coaches/admins and parents as well.
This policy change was not on the Agenda for Board Meeting on May 21. It was brought up by a Region Representative/Board Member.
The Board voted to amend the agenda and had a discussion regarding this policy change.
The policy reads:
g. players seeking additional trainings outside of their current team, club or OM may be
excluded as a try-out provided the following criteria is followed:
(1) Current coach(es) must be notified in writing;
(2) Must be given a written evaluation of skills and abilities and recommendations for
improvement in writing by the clinician at the end of the training session(s); and
(3) If the training sessions are conducted by or with a different OM team or club than the
player is registered with, the player may not transfer to the OM club or team during the
current seasonal year.
After discussion and recognizing the unique situation that players, parents, coaches, teams and clubs are in this year due to the Virus and the restrictions the Board voted to allow players to attend training sessions outside of their current clubs, without having to notify their current coach or receive a written evaluation.
The actual policy change is:
Due to Covid-19 affecting the Spring 2020 season, from May 21, 2020 until June 1, 2020, sections g (1) and (2) shall be suspended. During the this time, players are not required to notify their current coaches and a written evaluation is not required.
