The 2017 Indiana Memorial Cup to Take Place This Weekend at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana

Indiana Soccer to Bring a Fun SKILLS CHALLENGE Provided by Yokohama Tires and Expert in Youth Soccer Development Vince Ganzberg During the 2017 Indiana Memorial Cup

A total of 144 teams 8U - 12U from 29 clubs around the state of Indiana will take the fields at Grand Park to honor the 39 former Indiana Soccer players and referees who lost their lives before the age of 21.

The cup will begin on Friday evening and run through Sunday early afternoon.  All teams will play a guaranteed three games in a format focused on fun, fair play and sportsmanship.  Yohohama Tires will be present on (field 8) with a FunZone activity open to all ages.  Indiana Soccer will also feature former Indiana Director of Coaching Vince Ganzberg on (field 8) to run skills based contests from 9am-3pm.  To learn more about the Skills Challenge activities, click on the following link:  Skills Challenge

The event will have a moment of silence before the start of play on Saturday at 7:45 AM for all turf fields.  Later at noon, Indiana Soccer will host a lunch reception for the families of honorees from 11am-2pm on the hill in the grassy area to the north of field 8 near tournament HQ.

“The Memorial Cup is an event with a high-value, and yet sobering purpose. 144 teams will assemble to play and to remember those who were part of the Indiana Soccer family whose lives were cut short,"  Dave Guthrie, Indiana Soccer’s Executive Director, stated.  "We are humbled as we recognize and remember these individuals and their families, and to hopefully contribute in a small way to their healing process.  We memorialize their lives by using the net proceeds of the event to create playing opportunities for kids who would not otherwise have access to the beautiful game.” Guthrie, concluded.

Proceeds raised for the event will benefit the Indiana Soccer Foundation scholarship fund for players who demonstrate financial need to participate in soccer and the values through sport grant, as well as, the Indiana Soccer futsal initiative, which helps to bring the sport of soccer  to underserved urban and rural communities by developing futsal courts.
