Another State Cup is in the books and this year's really had it all. There were upsets and favorites winning titles. There was snow, lightning and wind. There were goals, saves, and moments that will stick with all of us for a long time. It was a great State Cup and we hope that everyone that participated in it felt the magic of State Cup. We hope that everyone had a good time and that everyone wants to come back.
Before we conclude this year's recaps however, there are 5 finals that have yet to be accounted for. Let's run through them below.
Finals
Girls 18U
In a matchup of the two tournament favorites, La Roca PO, who had been steamrolling the competition vs Utah FC 99G Black the defending champion and regular season champion. In the matchup between these two heavyweights, La Roca PO came out on top with a 1-0 victory.
Girls 16U
Devi Dudley. There is no way to describe how crucial she was in this game. In one of the most exciting games of the night 01 Celtic FC Premier beat Forza FC 01 RP by a scoreline of 3-2. While no means a one woman team, Celtic FC rode their U16 US National Team member hard in the final as she scored all three goals for her team and the second one was a thing of beauty. She and her teammates are definitely worth watching.
Girls 15U
La Roca PO lost this final 5-2 to USA Premier 02G PR. After an outstanding season and tournament for both teams, these girls played their hearts out in the last game of the evening. With an 8:20 kickoff after the previous game went to a shootout, both teams were still full of energy and made sure that everyone had a great time.
Boys 14U
I don't know if there is a more agonizing way to lose in sports than in a penalty kick shootout. Unfortunately, there is always going to be a winner and a loser, joy and sorrow, this match was no exception. In a fantastic back and forth match which saw both teams get goals called back for offsides in extratime, La Roca DC beat Sparta 03 Premier SP 5-3 on penalties.
Boys 13U
The top two teams from the regular season met in the final and unlike the regular season number 2 came out on top upsetting tournament favorite Sparta 04 Premier JK 1-0. It was a great game and both teams can leave knowing they gave it their all.
That is it for our State Cup Coverage but stay tuned as our State Cup Champions and a couple of wild cards will be headed to Seattle to play for Utah pride at Farwest Regionals.
