Day 2 of the Region 3 Presidents Cup in College Station, TX did not provide the results South Carolina Soccer fans were looking for. The teams worked hard and continuing a trend from yesterday many teams fell by a single goal and were close to finding great results on Day 2 of Pool Play.
Here are the results from Day 2:
8:00 am- SCUFC 99 Boys draw 2-2 vs Alabama
This match featured a comeback by the SCUFC side from down 0-2 at halftime to a draw by full time. SCUFC’s first goal in the second half gave them enough momentum to equalize on a nice set piece. This result demonstrated just how hard the 99 Boys were willing to work to ensure a good result from this tournament. Now sitting on 4 points from their first 2 matches the SCUFC 99 Boys require a win tomorrow to advance to the semifinals as group winners!
8:00 am- Furman 99 Girls fall 1-2 vs Arkansas
Sadly the Furman United 99 Girls are eliminated from advancing to the semifinals after another heart breaking 1-2 loss.
10:00 am- ESC 01 Boys draw 0-0 vs Arkansas
ESC 01 Boys worked hard to get a goal and they traded chances with their opponents, but the defense of Arkansas held on tough to keep the match scoreless for the entire 70 minutes. There may be a small chance that the ESC 01 Boys advance to the semifinals, but it would take a number of perfect results from other groups and them winning tomorrow vs Oklahoma.
10:00 am- SCUFC 01 Girls fall 1-3 vs Georgia
The SCUFC 01 Girls are unfortunately eliminated from advancing to the semifinals after their loss to Georgia this morning.
12:00 pm- SCUFC 00 Girls fall 0-1 vs Georgia
The SCUFC 00 Girls had another impressive defensive showing today and were able to hold Georgia off the scoreboard until late in the second half. The team had a number of good chances to score during the match, but just barely missed their chances to get the ball in the back of the net. This story matches the 0-1 loss they had vs Alabama in day 1. Sadly the SCUFC 00 Girls and their strong, organized defense cannot advance to the semifinals.
12:00 pm- PUFC 00 Boys fall 2-8 vs Georgia
PUFC 00 Boys still have a chance to advance to the semifinals of the event, but it will take a win versus group leader North Texas and some help with other results. The team could use a big margin of victory tomorrow too if things come down to tiebreakers.
2:00 pm- CESA Spartanburg 98 Boys won 3-2 vs Oklahoma
CESA Spartanburg came back from both 0-1 down and 1-2 down to beat OK in this match. The boys were resilient and had a lot of success scoring on set pieces. CESA Spartanburg had a great second half in which they score both the equalizing and go ahead goals. The 98 Boys still have a chance to advance to the semifinals with a win tomorrow. A win would put them in good contention for a wildcard. To secure the wildcard they will probably need a good goal differential vs Alabama.
2:00 pm- SCUFC 98 Girls lost 0-1 to North Carolina
The SCUFC 98 Girls sadly cannot advance to the semifinals, but have really played well in the U17 Girls Group of Death.
4:00 pm- DSC 03 Boys draw 1-1 vs Tennessee
The small, technical DSC 03 Boys ran into a very skilled, big and strong Tennessee team and were able to get a draw. The boys went up 1-0 in the first half, and held on to that one goal lead for a majority of the match. After constant pressure from Tennessee the boys unfortunately conceded a tying goal. The boys gave it their all on a hot afternoon on a turf field and they continue their undefeated run thus far in the event. A win in their final group match will put the team thru 100%. A draw could be enough to advance, but that route would require a number of results from other matches.
4:00 pm- SC Bulls 02 Girls fall 1-3 vs Arkansas
The SC Bulls 02 Girls have a chance to advance with a win versus group leading South Texas, but they do not totally have everything in their own hands.
Day 2 was full of ties for SC teams, but fortunately only 4 out of 10 of our states teams are totally eliminated from potentially advancing to the semifinals!
Day 3 will start super early at 6am central time due to the afternoon heat, so be up bright and early to follow the live results on our twitter: https://twitter.com/SC_YouthSoccer
