Region 3 Presidents Cup Day 1 Recap

A cloudy, cool morning led to a hot, sunny day in College Station for the first day of play of the Region 3 Presidents Cup.

10 SC Teams qualified for the event from the President's Medal Cup this year.

On Day 1 we had the following results:

8:00 am- SC United FC 98 Girls lost 1-4 to Georgia
This match was much closer than the final scoreline suggests. Entering stoppage time in the second half SC United was only trailing 1-2 and was pushing hard to find a second goal to tie the match. The calculated risk led to a number of close chances, but sadly the Girls conceded 2 late goals in stoppage time to fall in a highly contested opening match.

8:00 am- CESA Spartanburg 98 Boys lost 0-3 to Tennesee

10:00 am- SC Bulls 02 Girls defeated Mississippi 6-1
The SC Bulls were able to net a lot of goals in their first match of the event and have set themselves up nicely going into Day 2 of Group play. The team's strong attack could not be slowed by their opponents. The halftime score was only 2-1 in favor of the Bulls, but the girls scored two goals early in the second half to leave no doubts of who would emerge victorious.

10:00 am- DSC 03 Boys defeated Arkansas 3-0

12:00 pm- FUSC 99 Girls fell 1-2 to North Texas
The high intensity FUSC 99 Girls came so close to netting a huge win over North Texas, but conceded with just minutes to go to start the event 0-1. The teams traded PK goals in the first half and the remaining 50 minutes was an exhibition in transition soccer with both teams trading chances to score a go ahead goal. FUSC had the majority of the opportunities in the second half, but was unfortunately unable to score a goal to take the lead.

12:00 pm- SCUFC 99 Boys defeated North Texas 3-1
This match showcased some strong goalkeeping from SCUFC to keep a very strong North Texas team to only one goal. When the game was 1-1, SCUFC really took control of the match after having to defend for long stretches and was able to net both a go-ahead goal and an insurance goal to take an important 3 points on Day 1.

2:00 pm- SCUFC 01 Girls lost 0-1 to Tennesee

2:00 pm- ESC 01 Boys lost 1-4 to North Texas

3:30 pm- PUFC 00 Boys won 2-1 against Alabama
This match was intense from start to finish. PUFC took a 1-0 lead going into halftime and scored a second goal very early in the second half to get up 2-0. Alabama did not quit and fought hard and was able to get a goal back with about 5 minutes remaining. PUFC however was too strong and held off their opponents until the final whistle!

3:30 pm- SCUFC 00 Girls fell 0-1 against Alabama

For the day the state finished with a very respectable record of 4 wins and 6 losses and a goal differential of just -1. Every team worked very hard on day 1 and most games were just one break from having been a totally different result.

Good Luck to all of the SC teams in Day 2!! #GoSC
