Quarterfinals at State Cup

Sandy, UT (5/21/2017)

Yesterday was quarterfinals day at the 2017 Spring State Cup and what a day it was. Games kicked off at 8:00am and didnt end until almost 5:00pm. During that time 54 games and a 104 teams battled it out for a spot in the semi-finals. The other two games, the 19U Girls, were already semi-finals so our first final has been set!

It was a great day for soccer the sun was out and shining and each game had that extra little bit of drama as we entered the knockout round. Even more dramatic was some of the crazy upsets and of course the penalty kick shootout.

After such an intense day, we will be taking a break from the action today but be back at it with semi-finals starting at 4:00pm on Monday, 5/22/2017.

Girls 19U

Lets start with the only semi-finals of the day the Girls 19U. This has been a two horse race for most of the tournament, and in reality most of the last 5 years. LA Roca FD and 98 Celtic FC Premier have played each other in seemingly every final that can be remembered. Both featured players who had returned from one year of D1 college soccer and both rosters were absolutely stacked with talent. Only one of them advanced.

In one of the biggest upsets we've seen this year, L30 Crush Blue G98 beat La Roca FD 1-0. While the Crush team is highly skilled, winning a National Presidents Cup years ago, and has multiple girls committed to playing in college, such was the class of La Roca FD that this is nothing short of a massive upset. Crush advances to play 98 Celtic FC Premier in the final after they beat Arsenal JH 98 3-1.

Girls 18U

La Roca PO and Utah FC Black G99 continued to impress winning by combined scores of 13-0. They have landed in separate semi-final games but no one would be surprised to see them play on Thursday in the Final.

Girls 16U

The big winners today were Forza FC 01 RP and USA Metro Premier 01G RB winning by scores of 5-0 and 4-0 respectively. They also fall into two different semi-finals so look for them to play in the final unless 01 Celtic FC Premier and Wasatch Elite 01G TM, who pulled off a huge upset win over La Roca FD, have anything to say about it.

Girls 12U

La Roca PO soundly beat Impact MA 8-1 and Avalanche North 05 Black beat Forza FC 05 RP 6-0 to set up what should be an outstanding semi-final between the two clubs. Look for goals in that one.

Boys 15U

Drama in the boys 15U division as one of our teams to watch, Sparta 02 Premier DM went down in extra time 3-2 to Forza FC South BB, our other team to watch La Roca TJ cruised to a 4-1 victory.

Boys 14U

In our one and only pk shootout of the day, Impact SJ won 3-2 on penalties over USA Premier 03B RB after both scored one goal during the match.

Congratulations to all of our quarterfinal and semifinal winning teams and good luck in the next round. To those that lost, thank you for the memories and we can't wait to see you again.
