Congratulations to the winners of the 2020 North Texas Young Male & Female Referee of the Year Awards
Max LeGrice is a three-year veteran who works for the Ft. Worth Soccer Association as well as North Texas Soccer Tournaments. Max was nominated for this award because of his characteristics of being reliable, coachable, hardworking and showing steady improvement. His work ethic and confidence on the field was incredible. Watching Max get better and better was what earned him invitations to work the US Youth Soccer Frontier League games as well as North Texas Soccer State Tournaments. Max has spent many weekends at the soccer fields. Accepting game assignments that challenged him as well as assignments working with newer referees. His assignor at Ft Worth, put Max with some of the brand new referees because he would set a good, positive example and offer words of encouragement.
Off the field, teachers and community leaders echoed these traits about Max—saying he sets a wonderful example for others. He is great listener, understands the tasks at hand and always does a nice job.
Q - What about refereeing keeps you recertifying year after year?
Max – “I enjoyed watching the game and getting paid. I saved a lot of money for college.”
Q – What are a couple of skills you have learned as a referee that will serve you well as you go off to college?
Max – “I have learned leadership skills working with different crews. I can handle stressful situations well.”
Max is off to Colorado State for college and will be recertifying for 2021.
Rebecca Hill is five-year veteran who works for the Lake Highlands Soccer Association. Rebecca’s assignor said she is very brave, resilient and confident. If she is not playing in a game herself, she is refereeing. She is such a wonderful role model to our younger referees—often mentoring them in a positive way.
As a soccer player for the D’Feeters Kicks Soccer Club, Rebecca stood out as a leader on her team. Her coach said, “She is a true definition of a leader because she perseveres and has impressed us with her maturity” and further stating. Becca brings accountability, respect, passion and honor to every training session, and every game.”
Q - What about refereeing keeps you recertifying year after year?
“I enjoy watching the younger kids develop as players and seeing them improve. It’s heartwarming.”
Q - What are a couple of skills you have learned as a referee that will serve you well as you go off to college?
“Confidence and communicating with adults.”
Rebecca is off to Trinity College in San Antonio and will be recertifying for 2021.
