FRISCO, Texas (Nov. 20, 2018) – As the Men’s and Women's NCAA Division I season comes to an end, over 50 North Texas Soccer alums have been recognized by their individual conferences by being named to their respective All-Conference teams. Of those named, 12 received conference postseason awards as well.
Kaylee Davis and Trevor Martineau were named Player of the Year in their respective conferences. Davis led all players in goals (13) and points (27) for Texas State as the junior forward from Allen, Texas was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week a record four times in 2018. Martineau was named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year in addition to Player of the Year after the forward from McKinney, Texas led the conference in points (25), goals (9) and game-winning goals (5). Martineau was also the first freshman ever to be named the Southern Conference Player of the Week three times.
Courtney Sebazco (Fort Worth, Texas) and Messiah Bright (Dallas) both received awards as newcomers to their respective conferences. Sebazco received the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year award after her freshman year at Southern Methodist University, while Bright’s initial year at Texas Christian University landed her the Big 12 Freshman of the Year honor.
Forwards Cyera Hintzen and Mimi Asom were both recognized as Offensive Player of the Year of the year for the Big 12 and IVY League respectively. Hintzen is a native of Sachse, Texas and led the Big 12 in goals (10) and points (29) for the University of Texas, while Dallas native Asom was unanimously selected after leading the conference in points per game and goals while playing at Princeton University.
Three former North Texas Soccer players received individual accolades for their defensive prowess as Dominique James (Fort Worth, Texas), Kristen Ricks (Keller, Texas) and Heather Martin (Midlothian, Texas) were all named Defensive Player of the Year. James received the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year after her junior season at the University of North Texas, Ricks ended her senior year at Central Arkansas University by being named the Southland Defensive Player of the year and Heather Martin earned the Sun Belt Conference’s top defensive honor after her junior season at Texas State University.
Kate Mason (Keller, Texas), Chioma Eriken (Mesquite, Texas) and Ben Hale (Frisco, Texas) were all recognized for their work between the posts as the former North Texas Soccer players received conference Goalkeeper of the Year awards. Mason, a senior at Lipscomb was named Atlantic Sun Goalkeeper of the Year, Eriken led the nation in saves and saves per game to claim the Southwestern Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and Hale secured the Southern Conference Goalkeeper of the Year while playing at Furman University.
