PHOENIX (Jan. 5, 2017) — The 2017 Region IV US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Championships, began Jan. 5 at Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix. The four-day tournament will feature teams of elite players in the 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 age groups, from Region IV, which includes Alaska, Arizona, California North, California South, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

The four day tournament will ultimately determine who represents Region IV in the 2017 US Youth Soccer ODP Championships in the 2000 and 2001 age groups. Washington 99 Boys won its Region IV title last year while the California South 99 Girls and 2000 Boys and Girls won their respective Region IV and ODP National championships. 

With programs in all 55 US Youth Soccer State Associations, US Youth Soccer ODP, the original Olympic development program, is available to any player. US Youth Soccer ODP is the only elite player development program that can claim members of Major League Soccer, the National Women’s Soccer League, and the majority of current and past national and youth national team members, as alumni.

Utah highlights from today's games:

Boys 2000

The 02 boys battle hard today holding eventual group winner Cal South scoreless in a 0-0 draw. The result gives Utah a 1-1-1 record after group play. They finished second in their group and will have a consolation game tomorrow at 1:00pm against a Washington side that also went 1-1-1 although Utah scored more goals and had a better goal differential. After group games have finished Utah's Israel Baizabel is still in the top ten goalscorers. 

Girls 2000

Utah's Girls 2000 team emerged from group play undefeated after a 2-0 victory over Colorado this afternoon. The result makes Utah the winner of group C and therefore they will have a play-in-game against Arizona tomorrow at 9:00am. Utah advanced through group play without conceding a goal while also scoring 7 themselves. Hailee Atwater and Addison Holmstead lead the team in scoring with two goals apiece.

Boys 2001

Utah beat Oregon handily 5-0 in their only game of the day. Kevin Videira Lopes led the way bagging a brace. Utah won all 3 of their group games and will play Cal South in the semi-finals tomorrow kicking off at 9:00am. Utah had the largest goal differential after group play of an team in this age group. Julian Vazquez scored 3 of their 13 goals and is within the top ten goalscorers for his age group.

Girls 2001

The 2001 Girls fought to a 0-0 draw with Cal North and finished undefeated from group play with a 2-0-1 record. Their rock solid defense saw them through without conceding a goal. Brecken Mozingo led the age group in scoring with 5, 55% of her team's total. They will continue their tournament tomorrow at 11:00am with a semi-final game against Arizona.

Boys 2002

The perfect tournament continued for the Utah 2002 boys team as they beat Idaho 4-0 today. The team has played spectacular as the 4 goal victory was the narrowest margin of victory so far. Leading the group in scoring with 18 goals in 3 games, Utah looks like a tough team to beat. Led by the goalscoring duo of George Pineda and Daniel Powell with 3 goals apiece, Utah will put there perfect tournament on the line tomorrow in a semi-final game against Cal South. Kickoff is set for 9:00am.

Girls 2002

The Girls 2002 team had a great day winning twice and scoring 7 combined goals against New Mexico and Cal North and not allowing a single one. The two victories combined with their win against Oregon the day before gave Utah a perfect record in group play and a semi-final date with Washington, tomorrow at 11:00am. Caroline Stringfellow led the team with 3 goals scored in the group stage.

Boys 2003

Utah beat Colorado 3-0 and finished group play 2-1-0. Goals from Noah Robinson, Dante Silvestri, and Christian Nydegger gave Utah the victory and the top spot in Group C. Utah will play in the semi-finals tomorrow against Arizona, that game kicks-off at 9:00am.

Girls 2003

A tough group play ended for the Utah Girls 2003 team with a 3-1 loss to Hawaii. Madeline Callahan scored the lone goal for Utah. Utah finished 0-2-1 and will have a consolation game against Eastern Washington tomorrow with a kick-off slated for 3:00pm.

Boys 2004

The 04 boys winning streak came to end with a 3-1 loss to Arizona Red today. The Utah goal was scored by Chadwick (Zach) Booth. Unfortunately the loss knocked Utah from the semi-finals due to tiebreaker with Arizona Red. Utah finished group play with a 2-1-0 record. They play Eastern Washington at 11:00 am tomorrow in their consolation game.

Girls 2004

After falling 2-0 to Washington, Utah rebounded nicely today with 2 victories against Colorado and Hawaii, by a score of 1-0 and 2-1 respectively. Brooklyn Blaylock scored twice today helping her team to advance to a semi-final appearance tomorrow at 11:00am against Nevada.
