OCSC WIN First Match in 2019

Ogden, UT – 5/30/19

OCSC Snags First “W” of the Season Thursday

Ogden City Soccer Club is 1-1-1 three matches into their 2019 season with a win over Colorado Pride Switchbacks U23 on Thursday night.

In an increasingly physical match, the night ended 2-0 with both OCSC goals coming in the first half. Danny Darelli scored the first goal of the evening in the 36th minute off a service from Matt Lockwood. He settled the ball, beat keeper, Luke Holt and threaded the ball through 2 defenders to put it in the back of the net. 10 minutes later in the 46th minute of the match, Zach Maas received the ball out of the air off a Gavin Flitton pass, turned and took a couple touches to move past his defender and finished the ball low and to the left of Holt.

After the game Coach Eric Landon said of the team’s first win of the season, “Obviously I’m really happy to get that win. You gotta give it to the guys for their effort. To get two goals in the first half was what we needed, and that second goal right before half time helped us keep the momentum up. Sammy and Easton in the middle really secured things for us and when Kaden came in he was the spark we needed in the second half. Our front guys were dynamic and interchanging- when we got the ball up and had chances, I feel like we were dangerous. I could talk about everyone’s play tonight; it was a great team win. My Man of the Match tonight was definitely Mitch Jensen for his shutout his first game back in 9 months. He commanded his space and dominated.”

The game was a physical one with 20 fouls committed, 2 yellow cards and a PK (missed) handed out by referee, Dan Fallis. We know Saturday will be physical, but we’ll need to adjust. Our mentality going into it has to be that it’s a new game. We’ll have a new ref that might not call it like tonight. Biggest message to the team will be to control our emotions and not react to them, just play our game. We’re excited for Saturday.”
