North Texas Soccer alums Rice, Egeonu named NCAA Men’s Conference Players of the Week.

FRISCO, Texas (Oct. 5, 2017) – Former North Texas Soccer players Jared Rice (SMU) and Alex Egeonu (Campbell) received Player of the Week accolades in their respective NCAA Division I Conferences.

Rice earned his second ever American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week award after registering an assist in SMU’s victory over Rice University. The senior defender has appeared in all nine games for the Mustangs, while starting in eight. Rice is tied for the team-lead with four assists. The Plano, Texas native played his club soccer with Dallas Texans. Rice won the North Texas Soccer State Cup in 2011 and 2015, and his Dallas Texans squad reached the semifinals of the 2011 US Youth Soccer Region III Championships. Rice also competed in the US Youth Soccer Southern Regional Premier League (SRPL).

Egeonu netted a game-winning goal in the 80th minute to give Campbell a 2-1 win over Liberty. The goal is Egeonu’s second game-winner of the season, which is tied for the most on the team. The freshman forward has appeared in all 11 matches for Campbell and has started two. The Irving, Texas native competed in the North Texas Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) from 2010-11 and played his club soccer for Dallas Texans and Solar Soccer Club. Egeonu competed in the 2013 and 0215 North Texas Soccer State Cup.
