North Texas alum McKennie scores in USMNT debut

FRISCO, Texas (Nov. 15, 2017) – Former North Texas Soccer player Weston McKennie scored in his U.S. Soccer Senior Men’s National debut on Nov. 14 in a 1-1 draw against Portugal.  The 19-year-old from Little Elm, Texas is the third youngest player in the modern era to score in his first cap.

McKennie currently plays his pro soccer for German Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04, where he has appeared in nine matches, including five starts. McKennie has also represented the red, white and blue on the Under-14, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 level.

McKennie  played his youth soccer with FC Dallas, and was a member of the North Texas Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) from 2009-10. McKennie won the 2010 North Texas Soccer State Cup and the 2010 US Youth Soccer Southern Regional Premier League (SRPL) with FC Dallas Youth 97 Premier and reached the semifinals of the 2011 US Youth Soccer Southern Regional Championships, where he scored one goal.
