Orlando, Fla. (Nov. 29, 2010) – The US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Boys Thanksgiving Interregional concluded today with the 1996 and 1997 age groups competing at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
Toryima Asom put 1996 Region III on top in the 17th minute versus Region IV, but Alejandro Segovia struck late for Region IV to earn a 1-1 draw. Both teams finish with a 1-1-1 record.
1997 Region IV Black earned a 1-0 victory over Region III Red, moving them to 2-2 with their only two losses coming against the National Teams. Alejandro Vergara scored in the 35th minute to down Region II and push them to 1-2-1.
Region I Blue and Region III Green battled to a 1-1 tie in other 1997 action. Kevin Carvalho put Region I up in the 33rd before Caleb Young leveled in the 43rd for Region III. Both teams finish 0-2-1 on the weekend.
Goals just five minutes apart earned 1997 Region IV White and Region III White a 1-1 draw. Giovanni Magana Rivera scored first for Region IV in the 23rd, but Samuel Aguirre netted for Region III in the 28th to keep it even. Region IV finished with a win and two draws while Region III earned their first point in three games.
1997 Region I White and Region II White also finished in a 1-1 tie. Eduvie Ikoba's goal in the 20th put Region II ahead before Donovan Cesar scored for Region I. Region I ends the weekend at 1-0-2 and Region II finishes at 1-1-1.
In yet another draw on the day, the 1997 U.S. National Team Navy and Red played to a 2-2 score. Navy went ahead in the 18th on a Christian Lucatero goal in the 18th. Red came back to take the lead with goals from Malcolm Dixon in the 29th and Stephen Elias in the 38th before Lucatero got his second to finish the scoring.
