Nationals Group Stage Recap

Sandy, UT (7/28/2017)

The group stage of Nationals in Frisco, TX wrapped up yesterday and two Utah teams have made it through. Congratulations to all 4 teams for tremendous tournaments, we are extremely proud of the way they played and handled themselves while at Nationals. Moving onto the semi-finals are the 15U La Roca and 17U Celtic girls teams. Both teams play Saturday morning, the Celtic game is being broadcast on youtube. You can watch them play by clicking on the following link, http://championships.usyouthsoccer.org/live/, once there you need to find the game and click where it says live to be taken to the streaming game.

Matchday 3 Recap

17U Boys.

Sparta 00 JK was sitting on 4 points with a healthy lead in goal differential going into their final game. Unfortunately that was not enough as they were beaten handily 6-1 by group winners Baltimore Celtic  SC 2000. Arturo Martin Pimentel scored for Sparta. Needing some help to advance, a 10-2 win for FC Dallas put the nail in the coffin and sent them home. Even with the exit, Arturo Martin Pimentel and Fabian Gonzalez Limones were both on the list of top 10 goalscorers during group play.

15U Girls

After a defeat the day before, La Roca knew they needed a win to advance and win they did by a score of 3-1. Abbie Kotter, Tiani Fonoti, and Caroline Stringfellow made sure La Roca took all the points as each scored a goal. Their game was also broadcast, if you missed it you can click on the following link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jmoVAvr-9E to watch it.

16U Girls

While having 2 defeats is not ideal, the 16U Celtic Girls team had played their hardest and was looking to turn things around in the final game of group play. Unfortunately it was not to be as they lost 2-0.

17U Girls

With only 1 point through 2 games the 17U Celtic team needed a win to advance. Things were looking iffy until a 73rd minute goal from Hailee Atwater put them up 1 nothing. The goal put them in the semi-finals on head to head tie breaker. Their next game will be broadcast at 8:00am local time on youtube.

Thanks again to all of the parents, coaches, and especially the players for letting us be a part of this great run. Good luck to the girls in the semis and we hope to see everyone back next year.
