Iowa Rush Wins Two Regional Presidents Cup Championships, Advance to National Presidents Cup Competition in July

Iowa Soccer member club wins two age groups in West Chester, Ohio

DES MOINES, Iowa (June 18, 2018) – Iowa Rush Soccer Club, members of Iowa Soccer, had two teams go undefeated through group and knockout round play at the 2018 Midwest Region Presidents Cup Championships in West Chester, Ohio June 14-18.

The 18U Boys team, led by Coach Kirk Artist, won twice and tied in group play, sending them through as group winners to the semifinals.  On Sunday, the squad ground out a 1-0 win against King’s Hammer Academy of Ohio to advance to today’s championship match.  Rush’s march to a regional championship culminated with today’s 3-0 victory over Lou Fusz Soccer Club out of St. Louis, Mo.

The 14U Girls team had advanced to the semifinals of the 2017 Midwest Regional Presidents Cup and left no doubt this year it was the team to beat.  In five matches the squad, coached by Paul Fabry, scored 11 goals, while giving up none, in claiming its title.  Rush defeated CUP Black (Ohio) in its semifinal, 1-0, and opened the scoring up today with a 4-0 win over CCK FC of Kansas City.

Both teams advance to the National Presidents Cup Championships, held in Westfield, Ind. July 11-15.  The US Youth Soccer competition features only four teams in each age group (13U through 18U, boys and girls), one representing each Region’s Champion.  The competition format is group play (three matches) with advancement to either a consolation or championship match to determine first through fourth places.

The Rush squads are Iowa Soccer’s second and third Midwest Region Presidents Cup Champions, joining the Vision Soccer Academy 13U Boys team that finished third nationally in 2017.
