The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. Tab will move on to the next part of the site rather than go through menu items.

MICKEY WHERRY INDUCTED TO HALL OF FAME

Mickey is being inducted into the HOF posthumously.   Mickey lost his battle with amyloidosis in October 2016. Mickey was a devoted volunteer for Delaware Youth Soccer Association and was the founder of the DYSA Inter Club League. He also served as the Recreational Director for Kirkwood Soccer Club for many years. So often the rec player is forgotten, and the focus is on the Elite player or travel player.  Recreational soccer is often under served and Mickey ensured that it was kept in the fore front.

In addition to Mickey’s passion for the Recreational Player, he and his family were one of the first families to volunteer for TopSoccer at Kirkwood Soccer Club. He was a dedicated volunteer at the club, state and regional level.  Before his death, he was also a member of the President’s Cup Committee.  President’s Cup is a tournament for teams that are not as competitive as the Elite teams.

This past weekend we held our First Annual Mickey Wherry 3 v 3 tournament at Kirkwood Soccer Club.  We had 55 teams enter and participate.  Despite the snow, we had a great time and raised money for the Mickey Wherry Scholarship.  This scholarship will be offered to recreational players that will be attending college.
