MARCH 17 UPDATE | ALL Activity now suspended

March 17, 2020 02:45 PM

Iowa Soccer Members:
As the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic continues to evolve across our country and now within Iowa, so must our policies and decisions as we prioritize the health and safety of our members and of our greater communities.
Last week Iowa Soccer suspended its soccer activities until at least April 15.  At that time we left decisions about whether to practice, have meetings or organize inner-/intra-club games to member clubs and adult leagues to make.
As the last few days have unfolded, new guidelines have been provided from health and governmental organizations and within that context, we’ve reviewed what further action we should take.  As you may now be aware, we’ve had the confirmation of community spread of the virus within our state, the Governor has requested schools close for four weeks and the federal government has recommended there be no gatherings of 10 or more people.
Effective today (3/17/20) Iowa Soccer is amending its decision to suspend Iowa Soccer’s activity and is now prohibiting any and all youth club or adult organization/league activity.
  • This includes but is not limited to team/individual training, league play (if your club runs a league), educational sessions, in-person organizational meetings, camps/clinics, tournaments, friendly game or scrimmage.
  • Until the prohibition is lifted, these activities will NOT be sanctioned by Iowa Soccer.  By not being sanctioned, any club, team, league or organization hosting any activity will do so without insurance coverage.
Our staff will build contingency plans with the hope that we will be able to return to play on April 16.  But we’ll do so with the acknowledgement that we’re facing the unknown and we may not be able play spring soccer.  We ask for patience as we all try to comprehend the impact of this unprecedented pandemic.
If you have questions about fees paid to your club (a small portion of which goes to covering any Iowa Soccer League, Cup or Academy games if your team participates in these) or questions about future league schedules, those will be addressed by your club and/or Iowa Soccer once we understand the full impact and what may be a realistic spring schedule.  We humbly ask that you please exercise patience with our organization and with your local club leadership as we collectively work through the full impact on the spring season.
Going forward from today’s decision and announcement, as future policies and/or decisions evolve and need to be communicated, we will contact our youth and adult club and league leadership directly and keep our greater membership/parents informed via our website and through social media channels.  We encourage you to check those regularly.
Finally, we hope that you and your family are well and do not get impacted directly by the virus.  Our hearts go out to those who have.  Please take good care of yourselves.
Thank you,
Iowa Soccer Staff
