INDIANA SOCCER ESTABLISHES INDIANA FUTSAL

Growing Popularity of Futsal Ignites Development of Indiana Futsal Courts,
Leagues, Programming and Events

Indiana Soccer Association is pleased to announce the formation of Indiana Futsal along with the launch of its website – www.indianafutsal.org. The exponential growth and demand for futsal in Indiana became apparent following the success of the Mayors International Futsal Cup this past September. Over 200 players with ties from 32 different countries came out to participate.

Indiana Futsal hired Justin Becht as the Director of Futsal, who will be responsible to grow the membership through tournaments, leagues and programming across the state of Indiana. “Futsal is an attractive, hard-surface alternative that is played all over the globe. This fast-paced, exciting game is a healthy fit for inner city children and adults, as it can be played either indoor or outdoor in a space similar in size to a basketball court,” Becht stated.

Becht brings great experience in community relations, programming and event management. In the past, Becht worked for Indy Parks and Recreation where he initiated futsal programming at Ellenberger Park. Becht, also serves SCORE (Soccer Community Organization for Recreation and Education), where he supervises and manages inner city soccer programs.

“The lack of adequate green space presents a challenge for urban dwellers to access the ‘conventional’ game of soccer,” Justin Becht, stated. "Providing futsal courts is a much more sustainable action that meets the demand of space needed for soccer players." Becht, concluded.

In addition to being played in a more sustainable space, futsal brings abundant other benefits to communities and players. Indiana Futsal is committed to developing and expanding access for more Hoosiers to play futsal, and is cognizant that urban dwellers, and more specifically, residents of Indianapolis and suburb areas are woefully underserved. For players, the game is a great skill developer as it demands creativity, fast thinking and precision in technical skill.

Indiana Futsal is directly affiliated to the United States Futsal Federation (USFF); thus, bringing a lot of benefits and opportunities to its members. The Indiana Soccer Association is pleased to extend its support for the game of futsal and, in particular, for the urban areas around the state of Indiana. Indiana Soccer with Indiana Futsal will be hosting the U.S. Futsal Midwest Regional Championship this February as part of the affiliation to USFF.  Boys and Girls teams from U8 to U18, Adults Open and +35 are eligible to participate.

Indy Eleven will be a significant partner in providing Futsal opportunities for youth and adults who are interested. Indy Eleven and Indiana Soccer are equally committed to supporting Futsal opportunities in Indiana to a population with an enthusiasm for soccer and limited access to greenspace trhough the Futsal for Indiana campaign.

Indiana Futsal is currently accepting registrations to be able to participate in all events offered until July 2016.  For more information about current opportunities, please click here

Be sure to “like” Indiana Futsal on Facebook and Twitter.  Exciting news and programs are to come.
