93 Boys Bring Home the Region II Tournament Championship
Indiana Soccer would like to recognize the 93 boys that attended the Region II tournament held July 16-18, 2010 in Overland Park, Kansas. These boys dealt with many different issues throughout the weekend including a 10 hour bus ride, a problem getting to their game the first night, and having very little rest before their first game at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 16.
The boys started out by playing the talented boys from Nebraska. It was a tough game, but, the Indiana boys pulled it out with a 1-0 win. Afterwards, the boys had pizza and were exhausted, so they headed back to the hotel to get rest to prepare for Saturday.
Saturday brought very warm weather. The 93 boys and Coach Mo Cato came out for the next day ready to go. Saturday was going to be a struggle for the players with the first game at 11:30 against South Dakota and the second game at 3:30 against Minnesota.
Indiana boys tied the first game against South Dakota 1-1. Even though it was a bit of a letdown, the boys pumped up for the second game and rallied to win 1-0 against Minnesota. The boys were in the semi-finals on Sunday and were going to play a strong team from Missouri.
Sunday came and again the boys were a bit weary but ready to win the semi-final game, move into the championship game and bring it back home to Indiana. The players were going to have to play smart since there was a game at 10:30 and then again at noon. With help from Coach Cato, time management was going to be key and the boys were successful. The 93 players won the first game against Missouri 1-0 and were on to the finals.
Indiana’s 93 boys were pumped to play a very primed and ready Michigan team. The boys knew that they would have to work very hard to pull the championship game out. The game ended in a 0-0 tie and the great boys of Indiana won in PK’s! Way to go guys!
