FWRL Fires it up in Boise Again
The Far West Regional League was back in Boise last weekend and the competition was on fire. Idaho Youth Soccer was glad to host the final weekend of soccer for the FWRL, with teams competing from Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
The teams played a great weekend of competitive soccer, with the U14 girls Eastside FC team sealed up first place overall in the FWRL for the season and the NW Nationals G99 team coming in second.
“It is great to get to a look at how other teams are playing in other areas and the competition is good for our development,” said Eastside Timbers U14 girls head coach Clifton Bush. “The Simplot complex has a great setup with natural grass fields and they are nice to play on because we play on artificial turf in Portland.”
The U14 girls Boise Nationals Premier had a challenging weekend with one win and three losses. “Three out of the four games were only a one to two goal difference making competition high,” said head coach Tom Fetzer. Fetzer highlighted one play in particular versus the NW Nationals G99. “Tori challenged the goal keeper and headed the ball while taking the keepers hand to her face, knocking her to the ground. She jumped back up with a bloody nose to see that the ball was in the back of the net.”
The U14 girls CDA Sting also went 1-3 on the weekend. “The games were pretty difficult in that they were evenly matched,” said U14 CDA Sting player Bridget Rieken. “The teams were fast and had a lot of through balls, so we adjusted quickly to that.”
This was the last weekend of play for the U14 girls Far West Regional League and the teams are all looking forward to the next season of competition.
