The last two months have been challenging but we hope that you are all safe and well. Like most organizations, we have been trying to navigate this unprecedented time the best we can, while remaining cautiously optimistic. Decisions have been difficult as this situation has continually changed. While considering our soccer clubs’ and players’ needs, we’ve tried to make decisions that would allow us to continue to fulfill our mission in the future months and years and keep soccer accessible to your player.
While we have given updates as new information has been made available and decisions are made, we feel it is important that we provide some additional insight into decisions and answer some questions from the last several weeks. Below is information regarding UYSA fees, refunds, tryouts and other frequently asked questions. As a reminder, during this fluid time this information is subject to change based on the recommendations/guidelines from state and local leaders, and UYSA’s board of directors.
-
$9.25 for a recreation player
-
Registration is for the entire soccer year, August 1 – July 31.
-
Covers membership to US Youth Soccer and US Soccer, medical and liability insurance premiums, background checks for coaches/admins and other administrative costs.
-
We run a fall and a spring competition season (2 seasons per year)
-
This fee is used towards the costs of aligning teams in brackets, scheduling games, rescheduling games, reviewing game resultsand other league related administrative duties.
- The Registration Fee and The Legacy Fields Fee are both membership fees and are not tied to or prorated by a fall or spring league season. These fees, unfortunately, cannot be refunded for most players.
-
-
The Competition League Fee is used to run UYSA’s competitive leagues, and much of the work is done before the season starts. The lengthy alignment and scheduling process of our nearly 1800 teams was already completed in preparation for spring season. In addition, the bandwidth it would take to issue individual checks to our competitive players would take months, and with registration for the next year opening soon families could be signing up and paying again well before their refund got to them. The decision was made to not refund the spring league fee.
Any other fees paid during registration were club charged fees and vary club to club. Please contact your club for additional information on club fees paid or club refunds requested.
UYSA will be offering the following levels/types of refunds:
-
Will be returned for the Spring 2020 competition season back to the clubs or teams that paid the fee to UYSA.
-
-
The fees are being refunded to the individual team or club based on how they were remitted to UYSA (paid online through affinity or by physical check). Checks received after March 12 have not been deposited and will be shredded.
As a reminder, each of our soccer clubs is an individual nonprofit 501(c)3 entity and has their own refund policies and procedures. UYSA can only make decisions on the fees UYSA charges and collects (referenced above). Please refer to our communication to parents on April 7th about our encouragement to families and clubs on how they handle the suspension of play as it pertains to refunds.
UYSA also purchased a membership to SoccerTech, an online soccer training platform, for every player during this spring suspension of soccer activities. There is still one month remaining on this free membership. Access your free membership at https://soccertech.com/uysa-free/
If you’re not refunding my league fee will you credit it to next season?
-
UYSA’s board of directors unanimously decided that instead of creditingthe prorated amount of your league fee to the next year, that UYSA would suspend the Legacy Fields Fee of $40 for the 2020-2021 seasonal year. This fee suspension will cut UYSA’s sign-up fee by 40% and save our soccer families more money than crediting or refunding the spring league fee. The Legacy Fields Project will continue to move forward and our committees will look for opportunities to build new soccer fields that our game and membership desperately need. The Legacy Fields Fee will resume for the 2021-2022 and subsequent seasonal years.
