FRISCO, Texas (Nov. 2, 2016) – Four former North Texas Soccer players received NCAA Division I Conference Player of the Week accolades as Marchelle Davis (University of North Texas), Mimi Asom (Princeton), Esmeralda Gonzales (Southeast Missouri) and Jackson Morse (Memphis) all were top performers last week.
Davis earned her second consecutive Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week accolade after posting five points en route to UNT winning the Conference USA regular season title. Davis netted the game-winner and dished out two assists against Louisiana Tech to secure the win.
Davis, who was recently named to the All-Conference USA Second Team, has played in every game for the Mean Green this season and is second on the team in goals behind North Texas Soccer alum, Rachel Holden, and leads the team in assist. Davis is a native of Trophy Club, Texas and played for Dallas Texans.
Asom received her second Ivy League Co-Player of the Week award after netting four goals in two games for Princeton. Asom netted the equalizer against Bucknell and recorded her first hat trick against Cornell. Asom is a U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team pool player, was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year and set an Ivy League record with six Rookie of the Week honors. The sophomore forward scored 12 goals as a freshman at Princeton and is currently second on the team in points and goals scored with 19 and nine respectively. The Dallas native also played for Sting and won the 2011 North Texas State Cup, Region III Championships and National Championships with Sting 97. Asom received the Golden Ball at the 2011 National Championships, given to the tournament’s best field player.
Gonzales was named Ohio Valley Co-Offensive Player of the Week after recording her first multi-goal game against UT Martin in a 4-1 win. The freshman from Fort Worth, Texas has started 14 out of 19 matches and leads the Red Hawks in assists (5), while scoring the second-most goals (6). Gonzales played youth soccer with Sting and competed in the 2010 and 2011 US Youth Soccer North Texas State Cups.
Morse was named American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a pair of goals against #25 UConn in the 2-0 Tigers win. The freshman from Plano, Texas leads the team in goals (6) and points (12). Before Memphis, Morse played for Dallas Texans and Solar. Morse won the 2009 North Texas State Cup title and reached finals in 2010 with Solar. Morse also played in three Dr Pepper Dallas Cups.
