Indiana Soccer Association is pleased and proud to inform you that Vince Ganzberg, former Director of Education for Indiana Soccer was the recipient of the 2017 Dr. Thomas Fleck Award during the US Youth Soccer Awards Gala in Philadelphia this January. The award was designed to honor a lifetime of dedication where one has with integrity, honor, humor and humility made extensive and far-reaching contributions to the process by which youth soccer coaches are educated in America.
For nearly three decades, Vince Ganzberg has helped to grow the youth game as a coach, an educator and an instructor. His influence has been felt everywhere from club and high school soccer to state and national levels. Ganzberg currently works as the Education Content Coordinator for the United Soccer Coaches (national coaches association) and is the Education Director for Indy Premier Soccer Club in Indiana. He is a member of the United Soccer Coaches Academy Staff, U.S. soccer’s National Staff and a CONCACAF instructor. Ganzberg served as the Director of Education for Indiana Soccer from 2002 to 2011. He was inducted into the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame in 2015.
“It goes without saying I am honored and humbled to receive the Dr. Tom Fleck award”, Vince Ganzberg, expressed. “I am very thankful to have the opportunity to educate coaches across this vast nation. My experience as the director of education for Indiana helped me along the way. I am also grateful to all of those I worked side by side with and learned from. Finally the support of my family along this journey can’t be expressed enough. Again I am truly honored.” Ganzberg, concluded.
The Indiana native first became involved in soccer as a player in the fifth grade. He played club, high school and college soccer prior to getting his first taste of coaching. While at Bethel College in Indiana, where he was a four-time MVP and three-time captain and inducted into the Bethel College Hall of Fame in 2008, Ganzberg ran soccer clinics for inner city children while working for Indianapolis Parks during the summer. In 1990 he began coaching teams at the high school level.
Ganzberg coached the women’s soccer team at Bethel College when he was introduced to the former Notre Dame Men’s Soccer Coach, Mike Berticelli. Ganzberg will say that Berticelli was one of the most influential mentors in his coaching and instructing career.
With a degree in secondary education and a passion for soccer, Ganzberg has combined the two into years of contributions to coaching education in the sport. While working in the U.S. Soccer Coaching Education Department, he assisted in improving content and delivery on the U.S. Soccer E, D and C license courses and authored the online version of the F license course.
Ganzberg is also the co-author of the TOPSoccer coaching education book, a program that gives children with special needs access to the game of soccer with supervision of what it calls a “best buddy”.
Ganzberg resides in Avon, IN. He is married to Amy and has one son and two stepdaughters.
