Five North Texas Soccer alums earn Women’s Conference Player of the Year awards, 42 named to All-Conference Teams

In addition to the five award winners, 42 North Texas Soccer alums were named to All-Conference teams, with 19 of those players being former North Texas Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) players.

Barker, who was named the Southland Conference Freshman of the Year in 2014, was named the conference’s Midfielder of the Year after tying Camille Bassett for the most points in the conference with 30. The junior from Farmers Branch, Texas led her side in goals (10) and assists (10) while also netting three game-winners. Before playing collegiately, Barker played club soccer for D’Feeters, where she was a US Youth Soccer North Texas State Cup champion (2007) and a US Youth Soccer Southern Regional Premier League West champion (2011). Barker also reached the finals of the 2011 US Youth Soccer Region III Championships – a competition where fellow All-Conference North Texas Soccer alums Emma Heckendorn (TCU) and Rachel Holden (University of North Texas) played.

Chaiken was named the Conference USA Midfielder of the Year after leading Rice to a 11-5-1 record. The junior midfielder from Dallas started every match for the Owls and was second on the team in minutes played. Chaiken scored two goals on the season, including one game-winner. Chaiken played club soccer for Dallas Texans, where she twice won the North Texas Soccer State Cup. Chaiken also competed in the Southern Regional Premier League and played North Texas ODP from 2009-10.

Hintzen was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year after appearing in 13 matches for the Longhorns. The Garland, Texas native led her side in shots with 46 and found the back of the net twice. Hintzen played North Texas ODP from 09-13 and represented North Texas at the 2013 US Youth Soccer ODP Championships. Hintzen played club soccer for Sting and FC Dallas and won the 2010 North Texas Soccer State Cup with the latter.

Johnson was named the Southland Freshman of the Year after her rookie season with Abilene Christian University. The defender from Coppell, Texas started 13 of ACU’s 19 matches and was fifth on the team in minutes played. Despite being a defender, Johnson paced the Wildcats with five goals and was tied for third on the team in points. Johnson played for Andromeda and Liverpool FC in her youth days. Johnson competed in the Southern Regional Premier League with Andromeda and reached the finals of the North Texas Soccer State Cup in 2014. Johnson also reached the quarterfinals of the 2014 Region III Championships with Liverpool.

Jordan was named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and made the Sun Belt First Team for the conference champions, South Alabama. The Mesquite, Texas native started 19 of South Alabama’s 21 matches and was second on the team with six assists. Jordan competed with FC Dallas and D’Feeters before South Alabama, and played in the Lake Highlands Classic League.
