Fall State Cup Tournament Recap
Sandy, UT (11/1/16)
Fall State Cup has officially wrapped up and what a State Cup it was. There tremendous games through out and interesting storylines everywhere you looked. The tournament lasted a week and thrilled fans of the beautiful game for just as long. Group play ran from October 20th through the 22nd. After a brief recess on Sunday, the tournament resumed play with Quarterfinals on Monday, Semi-finals on Tuesday, and culminating in 4 fantastic finals on Wednesday, October 26th.
There was an estimated 8400 people in attendance throughout the week. UYSA would like to thank all of those in attendance for being fantastic fans and hope to see you all again.
Some highlights of the week including finals recaps.
Group Play
Day 1
Some Notable Games from today included: a 4-4 thrilling tie between Forza FC West 98 AB and 98 Rangers FC Premier. The game had it all as both teams battled hard. It was also the highest scoring game of the day. La Roca S CS and Blue Knights 99 Premier both started off well with 3-0 wins in their respective brackets at the U18 level. A tight game between Afc Apex 00 College Prep and Sparta 00 Jk ended in a 1-1 draw. VKCOBRAS also started well with a 2-1 victory.
Day 2
Notable Games: a 7-0 victory for La Roca AO, a tight 1-0 win for La Roca S Eg, a 5 goal game from USA Premier 99B DC, and a 1-0 win for Fire FC98 Blue.
Day 3
Notable Games: 6 goals scored between Comba FC 98 and Rampage Black 98,AFC Apex 99 College Prep scored 10 goals in their victory, a tight 1-1 draw between Impact MW and Wasatch Elite 00B Jf, 6 goals scored by Sparta 01 Jk in their victory.
Group Play Totals: Games=48, Goals=147, Goals Per Game= 3.06
Quarterfinals
Quarterfinals finished yesterday and we were treated to some thrilling games. Some of the best included: Forza Fc West 98 AB upsetting previously unbeaten La Roca TJ, Forza Fc 98 RP emerging victorious via pk shootout, Sparta 00 Premier Jk remaining undefeated with a 4-1 win, and La Roca AO being upset by USA Premier 01B PR.
Quarterfinal Totals: Games=16, Goals=55, Goals Per Game= 3.44
Semi-finals
U16
La Roca S AB cruised to a 5-1 victory over 01 Rangers FC Premier.
Sparta 01 Premier JK kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over USA Premier 01B- PR
U17
Sparta maintained its unbeaten record with a 2-0 victory over UDA 00B Blue.
Also staying unbeaten is AFC Apex 00 College Prep with a 1-0 win over Forza Fc West 00 LS
U18
With goals from Chanson Vawdrey, Ryan VandenBos, and Israel Baizabel, 99 Rangers Fc Premier emerged victorious over Forza Fc 98 RP 3-1
In the other semi-final, USA Premier 99B DC won 2-0 in overtime over La Roca S CS in a game that featured 2 PK's and an ejection.
U19
Fire Fc 98 Blue continued their run upsetting defending champ USA Premier 98B SA 2-1.
Forza Fc West AB upset their group winner 98 Rangers Fc Premier 2-0
Semi-Final Totals: Games=8, Goals=22, Goals Per Game=2.75
Finals
Wow what a set of finals we were treated to this year. Each game was close and provided tremendous storylines pre and post game.
U16
Sparta 01 Jk was victorious 1-0. This win marked the team's 5th State Cup Championship.
U17
Coach Justus Koelliker was looking for his second State Cup Championship of the night, Coach Jonny Broadhead's AFC Apex team had other things in mind and won the game 1-0. This victory marked Coach Broadhead's first State Cup Championship.
U18
In a matchup of two of the favorites in this age group 99 Rangers FC Premier won 2-0 and became back to back State Cup Champions over USA Premier 99B DC.
U19
In by far the wildest game of the night, two cinderella's faced off in Forza FC West 98 AB and Fire FC 98 Blue. It was a tight match that ended regulation and overtime 1-1 and went to a shootout. The shootout was intense as each team had multiple chances to put the game away, the shootout inluded clutch saves from both keepers, shots that hit off the post and went in, and others that stayed out. In the end the 14th shooter was the decider. Forza FC West 98 AB made theirs and the match ended. Forza FC West 98 AB become U19 champions.
Finals Totals: Games=4, Goals=6, Goals Per Game=1.5
Tournament Totals: Games=76, Goals=230, Goals Per Game=3.03
All in all it was a fantastic Fall State Cup, full of everything that makes soccer great. There were goals, saves. penalty kick shootouts, cinderella stories, and repeat champions. This tournament truly had it all. UYSA would like to thank everybody who came out and supported the players, and helped make this tournament truly memorable. We look forward to seeing you all during Spring season and we'll be back for Spring State Cup before you know it.
