Susan K Madsen was an active member of her community serving in her children’s schools and PTAs. She was an active member of Utah Youth Soccer and gave countless hours of support and service to the Utah Soccer Community. She was a dedicated mother and wife, who always put others first and loved serving unconditionally. Someone who was always willing to lend a helping hand and perhaps, more importantly, share a laugh.
Unfortunately, on May 8, 2014, Susan was killed when a man decided to drink, get in his truck, and knowingly run a red light. At the time of the accident, he was 3 times the legal limit. Her daughter, Tessa, was also in the car and was severely injured with a shattered left leg, loss of muscle and skin, broken jaw, fractured wrist and a traumatic brain injury. Her injuries could have been worse had she not been wearing her seat belt.
One of the things Susan enjoyed to do was exercise. A lot of walking with the occasional 5k. Her daughter, Mia Madsen wanted to honor Susan and bring awareness to the effects of drunk driving can have on a family by having a 5K. We have now organized the annual Susan K 5k Fun Run and Classic Car show to be held in Draper. The funds generated at the event will be donated to MADD.
