2020 North Texas Soccer Annual Awards

TOPSoccer Boddy - Monica Moreno

The 2020 North Texas Soccer Annual Awards were announced July 11, 2020 in conjunction with the 2020 North Texas Soccer Annual General Meeting. No winners were in attendance, but awards were mailed to recipients in 10 different categories.

Administrator of the Year

Ladawna Zertuche - Midland SA

 

Zertuche has served as the Registrar and Office Manager for MSA, and she has constantly put others ahead of herself. She is willing to go above and beyond with every member. Zertuche has been instrumental in seeing MSA is run efficiently and evenly. Zertuche has also been a trailblazer in MSA beginning a TOPSoccer program, and has proven to be the absolute backbone of MSA.

 

Volunteer of the Year 

Dave Waters - Arlington SA

 

Waters has been involved with ASA for upwards of 30 years. Waters has held numerous positions on the Arlington Board of Directors including President and Facilities Director. Waters is willing to step up whenever he is needed, and he is always available in a pinch. Waters is always one of the first on the field and one of the last to leave, and his love and knowledge of the game is evident in his dedication to ASA.

Young Male Referee of the Year

Max LeGrice - FWYSA

 

LeGrice’s presence is a commonplace at the fields every weekend, and he combines a strong work ethic with fitness and professionalism. LeGrice is a reliable leader who sets a solid example on the field and in the referee hut. LeGrice has experience refereeing US Youth Soccer Frontier Conference and North Texas Soccer Presidents Cup matches and will be attending Colorado State University in the Fall. Young Female Referee of the Year

Rebecca Hill - Lake Highlands SA

 

Hill has been a referee for six years and has also spent over two years as the assignor for LHSA. Being a referee can frequently prove to be difficult, but Hill’s resilience and bravery makes her an ideal role model for her fellow referees. She has never turned down an opportunity to work a game unless she was playing one herself. Hill, who is also a member of the DFeeters Kicks Soccer Club, has a variety of achievements that extend to academics, athletics, campus involvement and community service. Brad Bowers - Bedford Euless SA

 

Coach Bowers always values teamwork over individual contributions. Bowers emphasizes accountability, positive thinking and good sportsmanship. Bowers’ enthusiasm is infectious, and his contributions extend to the opposing teams as he often compliments good plays and tries to encourage opposing players after a mistake. Bowers also holds a Commissioner position on the Bedford Euless Board of Directors and volunteers with scheduling.

David Tucker - Bedford Euless SA

 

Tucker’s dedication is evident in the amount of work he continues to pour into coaching. Through highs and lows, Tucker’s message remains positive. Tucker has helped his players acquire confidence on and off the field. Even if attendance only consists of a handful of players, Tucker is able to adapt and provide opportunities for players to get better. There is never a dull moment with Tucker, and his dedication extends off the field as he is invested and encourages his players to keep up their grades.

Mario Carillo - Dfeeters Kicks Soccer Club

 

Before and after every practice, Carillo always talks with his players whether it is about how their day or about their grades. Carillo is always looking to improve via courses and licensing to help better his coaching abilities. Not only does Carillo demonstrate great sportsmanship, but he also disciplines his players if they show bad sportsmanship. Carillo has been coaching for over 20 years and has won Dallas Cup, multiple Classic League titles as well as has represented North Texas Soccer on the national level.

James Haylock - Solar Soccer Club

 

Coach Haylock goes above and beyond when exemplifying sportsmanship to his players and always teaches his players to respect officials and players on the opposing team. Haylock contributes to his players’ growth on the field as well as off the field. Haylock displays a positive attitude and a strong work ethic, and has been instrumental in finding alternative locations for training as well as mentoring less experienced coaches. Haylock continuously encourages his players to navigate failure and success in all facets of life. Haylock has also been a dedicated volunteer at hospitals as well as assisted living facilities.

TOPSoccer Coach of the Year

Suzanna Barron - McKinney SA

 

Barron has been involved with McKinney’s TOPSoccer program since its inception. She coaches, helps with activities and attends TOPSoccer meetings across the DFW Metroplex. Barron helps in the planning for the future and is essential in helping the McKinney TOPSoccer continue to grow. Baron’s love for the game is infectious and spreads to everyone around her. In addition to being a TOPSoccer coach, Barron coaches two recreational teams and competes on an Adult Soccer team.

 

TOPSoccer Buddy of the Year

Monica Moreno - FWYSA

 

Moreno has been involved with FWYSA’s TOPSoccer program from the beginning. She is a school social worker and has been instrumental in organizing activities and communicating with players and parents. She is very active during every practice, whether that is as a goalkeeper, referee or running a quadrant, and she always ensures that every player is included.
