Mesquite, NV (1/15/2018)
Finals have come and went at the 2018 RSL Presidents Cup U13-U18 boys. It was one amazing day for Liverpool F.C. International Academy Utah. They placed 4 teams in the finals after the early morning semi finals. All 4 teams won. One club will represent 2/3rds of all Utah based teams at Regional Presidents Cup in Salt Lake City, Utah this June 12-17th. The other two teams are Blast and Aggies FC. Congrats to all of our champions, and thank you to all teams that participated and made this tournament the special event it was.
U13 BOYS
The 13U Boys Final pitted USA Premier 05B Pr vs Aggies FC 05B BH NUU. It was a highly competitive match with two first half goals from Aggies the difference as they won 2-0. Both teams played their hearts out and it took a couple of moments of magic to break down the USA Premier defense, who was perhaps a little gassed after their semi-final game went to pks.
U14 BOYS
The storybook run of NUU Panthers came to a halt as they ran into one of the many Liverpool F.C. teams. The match was a tight one, finishing with a 2-1 score. The Panthers and Liverpool played so well throughout the tournament the matchup seemed inevitable, however La Roca TJ attempted to throw a wrench in the plans as they took Liverpool to pks in one semi-final while the Panthers rolled in theirs.
U15 BOYS
In one of only two finals that didn’t feature a Liverpool team, Blast came out on top against Gremio in what can only be described as an instant classic. Anytime a final goes to kicks from the mark you know you’ve gotten your money’s worth. When that said shootout requires a keeper to make a save to keep his team alive and he does then they come back to win? Incredible. That all happened in today’s game as Blast won their second shootout in three knockout games and became champions.
U16 BOYS
Liverpool F.C. vs Sparta. Two teams with high expectations that rode 1-0 semi-final victories to this moment. The game was incredibly even between the two teams and needed penalty kicks to find a winner. Liverpool F.C. has been here before and always come out on the losing end. Their keeper made sure that history stayed in the past by saving 3 shots to help Liverpool F.C. pick up another championship.
U17 BOYS
VKCOBRAS looked to do what their 02 brothers did last year while Liverpool F.C. was looking for the three peat. One of these storylines would continue while the other would fade to the side. Liverpool came out blazing scoring three first half goals the last of which was a bullet of a header and then set up shop in the second half to win 3-0 and complete the three peat and move onto Regionals again.
U18 BOYS
The last of the Liverpool F.C. championships may have been the hardest one as they had to overcome a 2-0 deficit in the final and ended up winning 4-3. It was a fantastic match high flying and full of goals. It wraps up a very satisfying tournament for Liverpool F.C. who will get the chance to represent Utah at regionals.
