2001 Cal North State ODP Boys Team Crowned Champions in Phoenix, Arizona

2001 Boys ODP Team

The State ODP teams traveled to Phoenix this January to compete in the 2015 US Youth Soccer Region IV ODP Championships.  The four-day tournament features ODP teams of top players in the 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 age groups, from Region IV, which include State ODP teams from Alaska, Arizona, California North, California South, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

Cal North is proud to announce that the 2001 Cal North State ODP Boys team, coached by David Briceno, won every game in their division this year, and in doing so ended Cal South’s winning streak over the last few years. The team in its outstanding performance gave up only 3 goals, in five games played in four days. The highlight of the event was the 4-1 victory in their championship match against Cal South.

After the event Coach Briceno went on to say:

“What’s special about this team is that they became a real team, like a family.   Everyone got along so well and learned how to read each other on the field.  They played for each other.   They believed that they would win.   We didn’t allow for any doubt in each other.   They were a true team on and off the field.   At practice in December, I knew right away this team would be able to work together and play as a team.   Ezekiel and Henry did an outstanding job as captains.   They made sure the players didn’t mess around and were where they needed to be on time and ready to go.    This is my 4th year with ODP and I think it’s the teamwork and hard work at practice that won us the championship. “

Congratulations to both the team and coaching staff.
