FRISCO, Texas (Nov. 19, 2019) – North Texas Soccer is well represented in the Men’s and Women’s NCAA Division I Soccer Tournaments. The Women’s Tournament began this past weekend, while the teams for the Men’s Tournament were announced Monday, Nov. 18.
Over 100 former North Texas Soccer players began play in the Women’s Tournament this past weekend with over 50 advancing to the next round. Of the remaining teams, Oklahoma State University leads the way with 14 former North Texas Soccer players, followed by Texas Tech (12), Arkansas (8), Texas A&M (7), Virginia (4), Kansas (4).
Dallas native and 2019 All-Pac 12 first team member Madison Haley plays for top ranked Stanford University, while remaining schools in the women’s bracket: Duke (Sydney Simmons), Brown University (Caylah Griffin), West Virginia (Enzi Broussard), and South Carolina (Francis Ann Matise) all feature one former North Texas player
Jordie Harr (Texas Tech), Chelsee Washington (Bowling Green) and Claire Gantzer (Oklahoma State) all netted goals in the first round, while Diana Ordonez assisted on one of the three goals for Virginia. Katie Lund (Arkansas), Madison White (Texas Tech) and Dani Greenlee (Oklahoma State) all secured wins between the posts, with Lund and Greenlee recording shutouts.
On the men’s side, 13 of the 48 teams in the tournament will feature North Texas Soccer alums. SMU leads with nine former North Texas players, while Mercer (3) and Kentucky (2) are the other schools to feature multiple North Texas Soccer players.
