The 2017-2018 Olympic Development Program Season is upon us with new changes to the program!

We will have four tryout opportunities for the oldest ages 01-04 boys and girls with two in the NWA and two in the Central area.  We are going to keep 18-25 players per age group and gender based on where the divide is among the players based on the coaches selections.  The 18-25 players per age group and gender will train Jan-July to develop as a team to be more competitive within Region III and at the ODP Trials in July.  Previous ODP players in the 1999/2000 age group will not attend out of state events but are allowed to train with the older group as space is available.

The younger 05-07 age groups will train one to two times each month December thru May with the hopes of having one team in each Area for each age group and gender for scheduled events.  For example:  one 2005 boys team from the NW area and one 2005 boys team from the Central area.  We can give more opportunities for players, shorter distance to travel for training sessions, and develop more confident players in the age groups.  The coaches assigned to the age groups will work with the Technical Director for final selections based on training sessions, positions for events, team leadership, and overall improved performance for the Olympic Development Program.

Training sessions will usually last 2 hours (approximately). Training dates and locations are currently planned as follows, but are subject to change based upon availability, playing conditions, and capacity requirements.

Goalkeepers will have 45-60 minutes with a Goalkeeper Coach (when available) then 60 minutes with the field players for each session.  We expect the goalkeepers to be field players first so all players, especially in the younger ages, will be training with the field players with some GK adaptions or staying in the technical foot skills so we can evaluate and develop the whole player.  ODP program is a DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM for the whole soccer player.

In the event of a possible "rain-out," please do not send email to ask about the playing conditions, as we will not be able to respond to you in time.  Instead, please check the ASSA web site and Arkansas State Soccer Facebook page for the latest information.  We will also send out email as soon as possible if a decision is made to cancel or re-route training due to weather or poor field conditions.

Note that sessions marked with an * below indicate dates when players in the oldest age groups (00-04) will all train together at the same complex, regardless of where each player lives.  Additional fees will apply for events listed below with ***.

There are Two Schedules below...One for CENTRAL AR and one for NORTHWEST AR plus events and camps on very bottom.  Players are welcome to attend both or just stay in their area but by the end of the season, we do expect players to attend sessions in Central so we can compare players and have them all in one location if needed.  Younger players 05-07 we are trying to use separate locations with less travel but if numbers are low, they may need to train centrally.

ODP Policy on Schedule Conflicts

We understand that schedule conflicts will arise from time-to-time, and thus have established some guidelines for players to follow to resolve these conflicts. Specifically:

  1. ODP practices take priority over club practices (since there are so few dates available for ODP throughout the year, and clubs have all the other dates during the year to hold training sessions) and recreational-level club games (since ODP is a higher level of play than recreational soccer).
  2. Classic-level club games (in a sanctioned league or tournament) take priority over ODP practices (i.e., official club games are more important than ODP practices, and ODP events are more important than club practices).
  3. A "scrimmage" or "friendly" (i.e., a game that is not part of a sanctioned league or tournament) by a club team is considered to be a club practice, not a club game.
  4. ODP competitions take priority over club competitions (just as national team games take priority over professional club matches).
  5. Any event scheduled at the "last minute" (long after the other conflicting event was scheduled) generally should defer to the previously-announced event.

We do our best to schedule ODP dates very early in the year (most dates will be posted before the end of October each year), and we make every effort to avoid scheduling ODP events on dates that conflict with major club and school events.  In return, we ask all coaches of ODP-eligible players to not schedule practices or games on top of our previously-announced ODP dates.  ODP players should provide copies of the ODP schedule to their club and school coaches as soon as it has been posted to ensure that their coaches have this information as they are making plans for their team's season.
